UQAM'S DANCE DEPARTMENT – 35 YEARS OF INNOVATION

UQAM's bachelor's degree program in dance is designed for people from all walks of life (from all origins, with diverse choreographic practices, traditions, cultures, genres and dance styles) who wish to experience an experiential approach to dance in tune with our constantly changing society.

As part of their training, students will be invited to dance on a daily basis, to work on a variety of creative projects individually or in collaboration with their peers, and to perfect their stage experience through several performances. In addition to sustained practice, the student will also refine his or her theoretical knowledge of dance and develop reflective and critical skills. In this way, students will prepare themselves for today's world of work, but even more: they will be able to transform it by integrating new practices, or new artistic visions.

Our motto "Corps dansant, corps pensant" (Dancing body, thinking body) reflects solid dance training in the studio and on stage, accompanied by a reflective approach that develops students' somatic sensitivity, creativity and power to act in the dance community or in related artistic and cultural fields. Upon completion of the program, our graduates may be called upon to work in performance, creation, teaching in schools, research, artistic mediation, dance intervention, or to enter related professions in the cultural milieu.

In short, the Bachelor's program in dance prepares students to work collegially in the field of dance and its broader scope, helping them to meet future professional challenges and build the world of tomorrow.
