Body Percussion takes the rhythm back to its place of origin: the body. To experience rhythm in the flesh and bones of the body is discovering that we are walking musical instruments, always ready to sound out. Feeling the nurturing and heart-warming effects of being fully embodied calms down the mind and allows us to be fully focused. We will be experimenting with both traditional rhythms and modern approaches: the former using African and South American patterns passed down for their activating, healing, and strengthening effects on the body; the latter for developing technique and coordination. This workshop gives the chance to create and play in a relaxed social setting, and feel the tickle-like excitement of grooving with others.

How does one blend individual self-realization with community building? This question inspired Geremia Lodi’s research and practice, now articulated in his workshops. Musician, performer and researcher in music education, Geremia has achieved a bachelor in Educational Studies at the University of Bergamo, a Diploma in Flute at the Conservatory of Novara and a Masters in Music Education at McGill.

This workshop was made possible by the generous support of the Département de danse de l’UQAM and the Conseil des arts de Montréal.
