Katherine Dubé

Founder, artistic director and teacher/choreographer at Variations Mile End

Katherine Dubé has been teaching dance, particularly ballet and modern jazz technique since 1986. She was a teacher and resident choreographer at Danceeast Dance Arts Studio in Moncton, New Brunswick under the direction of Harriet Gratian in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She is a recipient of the 1991 Canada Council for the Arts Dance Choreography Grant. Katherine has worked with renowned teachers and choreographers including: Harriet Gratian (founder of DanceEast Studio, Moncton NB) Danny Grossman (Danny Grossman Dance Company, Toronto ON), Jennifer Mascall (Mascall Dance, Vancouver BC), Angela Leigh (National Ballet School Toronto ON), Robert McCollum (George Brown College Toronto ON), Patricia Beatty, Suzette Sherman, David Earle, (Toronto Dance Theatre) Trish Armstrong (Principal Dancer Danny Grossman Company), Debbie Brown (Cirque de Soleil) to name a few.

Katherine has been a choreographer since the age of 14. She has directed and presented numerous choreographies on youth company dancers, musicals and plays, shows and videos.

After training and studying at the school of Toronto Dance Theatre under the direction of David Earle/ Patricia Beatty in the early 90's, Katherine moved to Vancouver BC and took a step back from dancing and instead nurtured her love for music. Katherine played guitar and sang in bands, performed across Canada and the United States and recorded records. Music has always been her choreographic inspiration.

Always aware that she would open her own studio someday, Katherine studied the human body in greater depth, receiving a certificate in physical training from the Vancouver YMCA in British Columbia and an early childhood education certificate from Vanier College in Montreal, Quebec.

Planting roots here in Montreal with her boyfriend and daughter, she has nurtured her creativity and love for the arts by founding the school of Variations Mile End in 2014. Constantly learning and honing her love of dance through teaching, choreographing, creating a performance program group for young kids ages 7-17, directing, coaching and performing her art.
