Wikidata: a powerful tool to heighten dance visibility
The Regroupement québécois de la danse (RQD) is pleased to team up with CAPACOA’s “Linked Digital Future” project, a far-reaching digital transformation and literacy initiative aimed at increasing the discoverability of cultural content on the Web, specifically in connection with the performing arts.
By participating in this project, the RQD wishes to help promote the development of dance and take concrete steps to increase the amount of data on dance available through Wikidata. The RQD membership directory includes a significant amount of data from the dance community that could benefit from greater visibility. For that reason, the RQD will transfer part of these data to Wikidata in an effort to contribute to the creation of an interconnected and structured data ecosystem.

What is Wikidata?
Wikidata is a powerful tool for increasing your visibility and that of dance on the Web. It allows you, through the use of metadata, to make your cultural content stand out on search engines.
This video capsule (in French only) tells you what Wikidata is and how the database acts as a lever of discoverability for dance-related cultural content.
Added value for the dance community
The main advantages of integrating data on dance into Wikidata:
- Promote RQD member artists and organizations on search engines.
- Increase the effectiveness, relevance and reach of dance-related content searches carried out on the Web by the general public.
- Offer a sustainable means of being visible and findable on the Web.
- Embrace the trend towards one-click searches.
- Feed the artificial intelligence (Web robots) that organizes search engine results and virtual personal assistants.
Upload data from the RQD membership directory into Wikidata
The information that the RQD uploads to Wikidata is already publicly available on the Québec Danse portal, in the membership directory.
The information will consist mainly of biographical or public data.
Type of information uploaded:
Public data and consent Since the data uploaded to Wikidata are public in nature and already exist on the Web, this project will not have an adverse effect on the security of personal data or copyright. However, if you don’t want to be included in our data export as an individual, artist, performing arts practitioner or dance organization, please fill in this opt-out form before January 1, 2022. |
