Maxine Segalowitz
MAXINE SEGALOWITZ is a queer, Jewish dance artist currently living in Tiotià:ke (Montréal), where she has immersed herself in creative communities as a dancer, choreographer, clown, drag+cabaret performer, and stand-up sleeper. As a dancer, she’s notably worked with Helen Simard, Yannick Desranleau+Chloë Lum and Ingrid Bachmann, performing locally and internationally. As a choreographer, Maxine recently premiered Ad-Hoc Dimension at Tangente Danse’s 22/23 season, this solo is a reimagining of her experiences working as a stripper, focusing on navigating agency with coercion and blurring lines between fantasy and reality. As a clown cabaret performer, she has presented works at Just For Laughs Festival and Montréal Clown Fest with her trio Les Dancing Queens, along with her other clown characters. She had been co-facilitating with collaborator Aurora Prelević since January 2021, co-teaching their outdoor somatics dance class, “Snowmatics”, with a title change each season.
