Irene Ruiz muniente
Born in Barcelona, Spain, and based in Montreal, Irene is a versatile dancer and choreographer trained in Spanish Dance, Contemporary dance and Ballet. Having a multidisciplinary profile, Irene establishes dialogues between the cultural roots of Spanish dance and Flamenco, and their most avant-garde expressions within Contemporary Dance.
Her work, first based on exploration, aims at the investigation of transdisciplinary languages through the use of contemporary dance techniques. Reflecting on the poetic, rhythmic, and aesthetic dimensions shapes her creative practice, essentially related to her interest in the exchange of artistic conceptions with artists from other traditions and backgrounds as well as disciplines.
After graduating from the Professional Dance Conservatory A. Ruiz Soler of Seville in the specialty of Spanish Dance and Flamenco, she moved to Montreal, where she obtained a BFA in Contemporary Dance and in Jazz Music at Concordia University. More recently, she has been immersed in the creation of Eye See You with Marianne Lynch and her project Azu-Lejos with Yasmine Chami. She has performed for Mainline Theatre, Festival Quartiers Danses, Fringe Festival and Festival L'Art en Soi.
