Maude Laurin-beaulieu
Growing up immersed in theater, music, and gymnastics, Maude aka Moodz, discover their passion for dance around the age of 16. Eager to expand their knowledge, she attends l’école de danse contemporaine de Montreal from 2017 to 2020. In the meantime, she meets Axelle Munezero, who introduces her to the street dance community in Montreal and to Whacking.
Freestyle becomes the core of her practice, where she investigates the interplay between her passion for crafting characters and "moods" within a rhythmic and liberating physicality. Since then, Maude has been involved in various projects within the contemporary scene, the nightlife, as well as jams and battles in street dance communities. In 2023, they co-found Supernature, an event designed for the queer community that aims to create accessible spaces for everyone while providing a platform for the Whacking community.
As a performer, Moodz collaborates with WAFD, an interdisciplinary creative company directed by Helen Simard and Roger White. She also presents her first co-creation, "Playground," at Tangente for Danses buissonnières as an emerging choreographer.
