Mathi Loslier pellerin

Mathi LP is a dance artist Tiohtià;ke, Mooniang, Montréal, who explores the various modes of bodily engagement in their relationships with tangible and imagined spaces. Their work intersects contemporary dance performance, Drag, live art creation, academic research, teaching, facilitation, and support in production and dramaturgy. They focus on sensation as a tool of activism through engagement with diverse somatic and performative practices. Through their collaborations, they question the enunciation of production modes and artistic research. They seek a profound commitment to the world through the experience of the body.

Following their graduation from the Contemporary Dance Creation program at Concordia University, they pursued training in Thai Massage and Myofascial Release at Lotus Palm in Montreal. Since then, they have developed their therapeutic practices by integrating movement and the fluid energy of Continuum, an experiential somatic practice from which they draw significant inspiration.

In 2019, they enrolled in the Specialized Graduate Program in Somatic Education at UQAM to deepen their understanding of the world of bodies. Their various practices converge towards enhancing the experience of the sensitive world.

They are currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Dance at UQAM, where they explore the dialogue between Drag practice and Continuum through and within physical performance. In their research, they observe, experience, and invest in what are termed fluid practices as spaces for embodied reflection on relational, identity, and social change issues. Mathi LP is involved in the live arts scene with artists such as Kerwin Barrington, Oscar Coyoli-Soledad Rosa, Steve Day, Sarah Dell’Ava, Kaï Iversen, Kelly Keenan, Hanna Sybille Müller, Linda Rabin, Camille Renarhd, and Andrew Turner as a performer, co-facilitator of events, production manager, rehearsal director, and/or artistic advisor.

Mathi views teaching and facilitation as artistic and political practices that convey discourses on bodies and reflect our relationships with the world. In 2022, they established Espaces Aperçus, a project focused on fluid hospitality and the sharing of practices in rural areas, in collaboration with the RURART organization in Estrie. They invite movement artists to engage in and reflect on various socially engaged themes through practical application.
