When it is well done, a promotional video is a quick and effective way to convey information and attract audiences. However, this can be expensive if you hire a professional to produce the video. By acquiring basic skills and practising them in this training workshop, participants will be able to produce their own video clips to share on social media.

In this training workshop, participants will be guided through the various steps for making a video clip, from conception, screenwriting, filming, and editing to dissemination. Between the sessions, they will conceptualize a video clip, shoot it, and edit it.

They will do a group presentation of their work for each one of these stages to receive comments and suggestions. These exercises are useful for individual participants as well as for the group, as they serve as concrete examples during the training workshop.

 

Learning Objectives

  • To master all the steps in the production of a video.
  • To adapt to all the different dissemination platforms.
  • To conceptualize, shoot, and edit a video.
  • To distinguish between amateur and professional videos.
  • To visualize the finished product starting from the conception stage.
  • To apply general notions for use of all video cameras.
  • To edit using DaVinciResolve professional software.

Required material

Cette formation sera offerte à distance via le logiciel Zoom et comportera des exercices pratiques techniques. Les participants devront avoir :

  • A camera or a mobile device to shoot the video.
  • A computer with Windows 7 (or higher) or Mac OSX 10.11 (or higher) for installing DaVinciResolve. Ideally, the computer should have a minimum of 8 GB of RAM for optimal editing fluidity.
  • The capacity to install DaVinciResolve software in the computer.
  • The capacity to install the Zoom Client application in the computer.
  • A functioning microphone and camera to attend the workshop and to communicate with the workshop leader and other participants.
  • A good Internet connection.

Detailed schedule

This training workshop of 24 hours will be held in 6 sessions of three hours of training. In addition, a minimum of 6 hours of exercises are to be carried out between the training sessions, as follows:

  • Thursday, October 13, 2022, 9:00AM to 12:00PM
  • Reserve about one hour of practice before the next session
  • Friday, October 14, 2022, 9:00AM to 12:00PM
  • Reserve about one hour of practice before the next session
  • Monday, October 17, 2022, 9:00AM to 12:00PM
  • Reserve about one hour of practice before the next session
  • Friday, October 28, 2022, 9:00AM to 12:00PM
  • Reserve about one hour of practice before the next session
  • Friday, November 11, 2022, 9:00AM to 12:00PM

Instructor

After his studies in film, screenwriting, and television, Étienne Marcoux worked as a video and television director. He has made videos of all types, including fictional and documentary works, corporate videos, and web and video clips. For a number of years, Étienne taught video production at l’École nationale de l’humour and trained students at Cégep de Saint-Laurent to make documentaries abroad.
