Coup de pouce, Custom Trainings
Do you need to find a training course fast that will meet a specific need? The Coup de pouce Program was designed specifically for that purpose! Define your project and receive a customized, one-on-one training in a wide range of skills.
- Fall-winter session: you can submit an application at any time between August 15 and January 31. The training project you submit must not begin before September 1 and must end no later than February 25.
- Spring session: you can submit an application at any time between March 15 and May 31. The training project you submit must not begin before April 1 and must end no later than June 15.
- You must submit your training project at least two (2) weeks before its expected start date.
- Applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis, until funds are exhausted.
- Applications will not be accepted during the following periods:
- February 1 to March 14, inclusively.
- June 1 to August 14, inclusively.

Who can submit a Coup de pouce project?
- The program is intended exclusively for dance professionals (artists, cultural workers, teachers, managers, designers, etc.), whether they are salaried employees, self-employed workers, unemployed or without income.
- Candidates must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents and must live in Quebec.
- The Coup de pouce program is geared primarily to candidates established in Montreal, since the funding for the program comes from a budget earmarked for training projects in the Montreal region. The RQD will, however, accept a limited number of candidates from other regions. Act now to apply if you live outside of Montreal.
- RQD membership is not mandatory, but priority will be given to applications from RQD members.
- Beneficiaries of employment insurance, social assistance, job integration measures and self-employment support (e.g., wage subsidy, Young Volunteers, etc.) are eligible. They must notify the agent responsible for their file that they will be participating in this customized continuing professional training program.
- Professionals in other artistic disciplines, full- or part-time students, temporary foreign workers and salaried employees whose employer is subject to the Job Skills Act (an employer whose payroll exceeds $2 million) are not eligible for the Coup de pouce program.
Important: All candidates participating in the same Coup de pouce project must meet these criteria.
- Customized individual training
- Customized training for a small group of participants with a similar need.
- Asynchronous online training with a registration fee (eligible only if assistance from a trainer is possible and required).
Your training project must lead to an improvement in your skills, employability or employment conditions in the following areas:
- Artistic, discipline-based, or skills in related areas of artistic expression
- Career and cultural organization management
- Overall knowledge of the cultural community, of law, and of the globalization of artistic activities
- Advertising, communications, development and marketing
- Audience development and cultural mediation
- New technologies
- Training programs, classes or internships eligible for the Dancer Training Support Program
- Hiring of a consultant mandated to carry out the project or of a collaborator required for the project
- Training a new employee
- Learning or rehearsing a show
- Participation in a conference, a symposium, a congress or a seminar
- Learning a second language or participating in a francization project
- Training or internship offered outside Quebec
- Other training, class or internship funded by Services Québec or ineligible for the Services Québec measure through which Coup de pouce is funded

How do I submit a Coup de pouce project?
- Define your training needs.
- Determine your objectives.
- Contact the trainer of your choice.
- Outline your training plan with the trainer; get their complete contact information and hourly rates, and find out if they are registered to charge taxes.
- Complete our Coup de pouce application form and attach your CV as well as that of your trainer.
A Coup de pouce project generally lasts no longer than 12 hours, but projects are evaluated on a case by case basis. A project can be longer, exceptionally, if it is justified and if there are sufficient funds available through the program.
Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis, until the program funds have been exhausted.
The Professional Development Director will normally evaluate your project within two weeks. They ensure that the project is eligible, relevant and realistic, and that it is a formative activity and has the potential to improve your employment situation. The Director also checks your eligibility for the program and your trainer’s expertise. If required, they can help you specify your project and can recommend a trainer.
If your project is accepted, the RQD will send you:
- An agreement that both you and your trainer must sign.
- An email inviting you to fill in the online Services Québec participant form.
If there is more than one participant in your training program, all participants must be eligible and must fill in the Services Québec participant form, but only the applicant will sign the agreement with the RQD on behalf of their group.
Important: Your training program cannot start until all the participants fill in the Services Québec form, the RQD receives the agreement signed by all parties involved, and your financial contribution is paid.
Financial contribution of the participant
- Customized individual training program or training program for a small group of participants: 15% of the cost of the project (before taxes). Once your project has been completed, the RQD will pay your trainer’s fees upon presentation of their bill and training report.
- Asynchronous online training with a registration fee: 25% of the fees (before taxes). You are required to pay the registration fee in full and the RQD will reimburse you for 75% of the fee (plus all taxes) before the start of your training program, upon receipt of the supporting documents.
After completing your Coup de pouce training program, you will receive an appreciation form from the RQD. Please fill it in and return it within the prescribed time period.
Your answers are essential to maintaining the quality of the training programs and their funding, since Services Québec requires that participants in all its supported training programs provide an evaluation.
