Madz Derose
Born in Ottawa, Ontario, Madz DeRose is a Montreal-based contemporary dance performer and choreographer, a recent graduate of Concordia University’s Contemporary Dance program. DeRose works as an independent dance collaborator on various projects at Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). Madz also shares her passion as an independent dance teacher, encouraging young talent throughout Montreal. Madz DeRose blends emotion with physicality in her artistic exploration. What physical capacities and limitations we have within ourselves to entrust our safety to another person is a topic that DeRose often explores and continues to research in her work. Her work explores the complexities of interpersonal relationships, focusing on the interplay between “oneness” and individuality. She explores themes of trust and vulnerability, pushing the boundaries of physical expression. Since graduating, she has explored the integration of fabric, collage, and visual media to compose cohesive choreographic narratives. Madz is particularly interested in the intersection of collage and movement, with the goal of facilitating a dialogue between these visual forms. Her goal is to create honest and evocative movement that sparks a meaningful exchange between performer and viewer, inviting them to delve into the complexities of human connection and emotion through the language of dance, senses and memory.
