Valérie Pitre

Démo - Les Malchaussées Gumboot

Valérie Pitre is an artist from Stoneham. From an early age, she discovered movement through karate and different dance styles. She completed her professional training at the École de danse de Québec (EDQ) in June 2014. Since then, she has been working in the professional contemporary dance scene in Quebec City as an interpreter and specializes in gumboot dance with the company Les Malchaussées. She continues to develop her artistic background with percussive dance workshops like La Grande Marée danse, an event expected each year by the percussive dance community. In the summer of 2018, she flew to Ghana to participate in the 10th edition of The International Body Music Festival. In January 2019, she left to participate in the Circle Music Retreat with Musica do Circulo, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Enriching and unique training.

She has worked with various choreographers including Alan Lake, Tedd Robinson, Harold Rheaume, Karine Ledoyen, Yvann Alexandre (France), Genevieve Duong. She is now working with Mars elle danse company on several new work.

Valérie delves into the field of choreographic creation and develops her artistic approach. In her work, she is interested in the idea of seeing the body in another form. Transform through a material that becomes the main element of research accompanied by the body that transposes the imaginary to the real. Can be paint, mask with wire, wool, flowers.This mixed with movement and kind of visual arts body transformation allows her to develop her personal and unique choreographic language. Improvisation and authentic movement are the foundation of this body research.

She is involved in creation around research combining installation and performance. Several projects are underway with various artists from Quebec, Montreal and France.

An active performer, Valérie is one of Quebec's young up-and-coming artists who want to make things happen.
